ENC are
vector-based and compliant with the Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS) convention
and with the IHO's (International Hydrographic
Organization) product specifications. They contain all necessary navigational
information including objects characteristics such as lighthouses, lights,
buoys etc.
Replacing the required paper charts on board, the Electronic Chart Display
and Information System (ECDIS ) is an International
Maritime Organization (IMO) approved navigation system. The system provides
ship position, route planning , route monitoring, distance measurement, and
safety warning alarms such as anti-grounding.
NeoSYS is a C-MAP Norway official Original
Equipment Manufacturer and develops ENC/ECS systems based solutions. C-MAP's
CM-93/3 is an international standards compliant ENC format . The charts are
automatically updated through Notices to Mariners sent via e-mail, Internet
HTTP, Inmarsat, GSM mobile phone...
Standard S52 visuals with palettes (Day, Dusk, Night) can be used as
well as INT-1 visuals to generate an output similar to paper navigational
charts.
An example is shown in the tactical demonstrator
devopped by NeoSYS.
